Help Bubacarr go to the University of The Gambia

Clara Zemsky writes:  Bubacarr Tamba and I met during my time in The Gambia. He was a science teacher at the Upper Basic School (grades 7 through 12) a few miles from the village I was living in. For about a year, we worked together running the school's environmental club. Our activities consisted in taking club members on a field trip, starting a tree nursery, and organizing a school-wide Earth Day event. Bubacarr not only worked with me, he was also always willing to help me work on my language skills or show me around the area. We had a lot of fun teaching the students but also learning about each other's culture.

After teaching for two years, Bubacarr was admitted to the University of the Gambia (UTG) for a Bachelor of Science Education in Agriculture. This opportunity will not only let Bubacarr pursue his interests but also give him the opportunity to better provide for his parents. As the oldest son in the family, Bubacarr has had to take on a lot of financial responsibilities, which has been particularly difficult in recent months. The degree will allow him to be better paid as a teacher once he graduates, but also to be considered for higher ranking jobs in the school system.

The tuition fees in addition to the costs of living are difficult to cover for students who have to provide for their families. I would be so grateful if we could help Bubacarr attend UTG this year!

Bubacarr's program will take four years, so if you're comfortable with monthly donations, that will really be great!  (Just check that box on the Donate page.)  But any amount will help.  THANK YOU.

In September 2021, Bubacarr was in his second year at UTG, delighted to be on his way thanks to the support of Clara's family and friends.

But he still needs our support!!

Please donate if you can.
