This is Demba Jallow, a native of Sambel Kunda, the village I have been posted at for my two year service in the Peace Corps. He’s a good friend and has been a great resource for me since living here. In 2018 Demba was the first in his family to graduate from High School from one of Gambia’s well known schools in the provinces called Armitage. Wanting to further his education Demba applied to The Gambia College and was accepted and was well on his way to being a first generation college student! Unfortunately without the financial means to pay tuition, room and board fees, he was unable to attend. Unlike America there are not many financial resources available for Gambians to further their education, and coming from an area where the value of education is not fully understood, he had no help. |
