Help Yassin Become a Teacher

Harry Dwinell writes:
"I met Yassin when she was in grade 10.  She was not the most naturally gifted student but she worked harder than any other student in the village to improve upon her scores.  She would consistently seek me out to help her practice with the goal of improving her scores.  She is from the Central River Region of the country and her dream is to become a teacher.  She wants to help other students living up country in receiving a proper education.  It was easy for me to see Yassin’s motivation and drive to reach this goal as she started (on her own) an after-school homework program for all the younger students in her and the surrounding compounds. She found a chalk board and borrowed chalk from the school.  Two nights a week she would run this program teaching both math and English to students from grade 3 to grade 9.  I have honestly never seen such a young woman, in The Gambia or the States, with so much determination to see her dream become a reality.

Gambia Rising was founded by returned Peace Corps volunteers and staff and works with a team of volunteer Gambian community coordinators.  As a result of having no offices, no payroll, and minor overhead paid by Board members, 100% of your donation will go directly to support Yassin (or, if there is any left over, other students like her).
